What is a San Pedro Retreat?
San Pedro retreat works with the cactus (Echinopsis Pachanoi) which contains sacramental properties. It is a close relative of the Echinopsis peruviana (Peruvian torch cactus). The name is attributed to the belief that just as St Peter holds the keys to heaven, the effects of the cactus allow users "to reach heaven while still on earth".
What is San Pedro medicine?
The San Pedro cactus contains a number of alkaloids , including the well-studied chemical mescaline (up to 4.7% of dry cactus weight). Anecdotal evidence suggests that the highest concentration of active substances is found in the layer of green photosynthetic tissue just beneath the skin.
If we were to say how does one rate these plant medicines on a 1-5 rating I would say that both Ayahuasca and San Pedro are on the 5 level but reflect different flavours and qualities. The depth of San Pedro is in the bond that one feels with the natural world it is the heart of the nature beings , the wind, storms, stars and thunder. It is nature’s magic whisperer and speaks to us of our hidden connection.
How does San Pedro ceremony look like?
For this we venture out into the nature , we embrace the first couple of hours in preparation and ceremonial intents, waiting for the effects of San Pedro to arrive. The San Pedro takes its time arriving, generally 1-2 hours but it is also a very long and sustained journey.
The experience can be like surfing a wave that will just not stop, and it has the feeling of "when will this end?". It is similar to a wave as well, you can feel the immensity of the power behind it. Our Ayahuasca and San Pedro retreats Peru respect this medicine immensely for all the gifts it brings.
